The cascade impaction method is used to determine the Aerodynamic Particle Size Distribution (APSD), estimating the delivered dose and its deposition site within the lungs. Standard instruments used to characterize aerodynamic particle size distribution include the Andersen Cascade Impactor (ACI) and the Next Generation Impactor (NGI).
